Last updated: 30 July 2026

Food Waste Manager ("we", "us", "the Service") helps you track your pantry, get recipe ideas, and reduce food waste. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have. It is written to comply with the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR/UK GDPR) and applicable United States privacy laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA).

6. Data retention

We keep your account and content data for as long as your account is active. Uploaded photos are used to extract items and are not stored by us afterwards. If you delete your account (or ask us to), we delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal obligations.

7. Your rights

If you are in the EU/EEA/UK (GDPR)

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you are in the United States (incl. California – CCPA/CPRA)

You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it's used, to request deletion or correction, and to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" (we do not sell or share your data). We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

How to exercise your rights: You can export your pantry data yourself at any time via Settings → Data → Download my data (CSV). For access, correction, or deletion of your account and other data, email hi@foodwastemanager.com and we'll respond within the timeframes required by law.

8. Cookies & local storage

We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in (a session token) and to remember minor preferences (like your cooking-style slider). We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

9. Security

Passwords are stored using strong one-way hashing (scrypt), never in plain text. We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) and scope every account's data to that account. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

10. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 16 (or under 13 in the United States), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice within the app or by email.
